The star of Blades of Time is a female bounty hunter named Ayumi who transports herself to Dragonland in search of unimaginable treasures. She soon realizes that Dragonland is a hostile world ruled by a demonic being with the goal of destroying all the bounty hunters she encounters. Armed with a pair of swords, Ayumi takes it upon herself to overthrow the evil lord and escape from him while her combat and magic skills evolve.

The game takes place in a 3D setting that Ayumi has the opportunity to explore. On her way she encounters different creatures and challenges that she has to overcome. Thanks to the special dual-wielding system, Ayumi defeats the hundreds of enemies that stand in her way, while she develops the spell learning that the path provides her with. The spells are based on both Chaos and Order, including the ability to turn back time and fight alongside herself. The Time Rewind feature sends Ayumi to a previous point, allowing her to help herself in combat or solve puzzles, leaving useful items for later moments.

Blades of Time Dragonland is a game full of traps that the player must avoid while learning the different skills that the scenarios provide. The game takes place in snowy settings, temperate jungles, decaying cities and islands in the sky. Each scenario brings something new and pushes Ayumi to learn and develop new qualities, while a second player has the possibility of intervening through co-op mode.
